Patti

A couple of years ago (wow – a couple?!) I spent a few hours in Erik’s room putting up balloons.  Balloon stickers that is.  Red balloons.  They looked great.  But, well time goes on, and we all need a change.  Especially when someone gave a toddler white walls.  White walls that he put his dirty feet on everyday when he was put down for nap and didn’t want to be there.

And we all know how it goes after a couple of years of getting gifts and other random things that your three year old collects.  So needless to say, his room was pretty much a disaster and no one could take it anymore.

I hate clutter.  Can you believe I let this go on this long?  Ah life, it sneaks up on  you and clutters up your world.

Shrek needs his helmet in case he falls, course.

Feeling dizzy yet?  Yea we’re going in circles.

Okay we have an empty room.  And yes, that is Erik dancing in front of the mirror.  And no, I don’t know where he gets crazy ideas like that from…

But pay attention to the sweatshirt….it’s foreshadowing (is it still foreshadowing if you point it out?  this is why I was never an English major).

The ceremonial removal of covers.  And we are balloon-less now.

Okay so yeah I pointed out that serious clutter problem we were having – well – while we were painting we did what a normal kid would do while cleaning.  We just moved the mess.

Yea, we were seriously doing stuff like that for a couple of days.

And……….

The first of the color goes on.  And is that really Syracuse orange?  Why yes, it is.

Hot right?  Yes, we rule.

And moving on to the next color.

We do participate in child labor.  Call your local DCFS.

That looks really bad.  Ouch.

Oh and Brandon decided we needed more pictures of our moved mess.

Yes that is the cat laying on the dog bed.

Well however fun it may be to have a toddler bed in the kitchen, we finished the room and moved everything back in.  Sad, this I know.

Final product:

Yea, his bed was downgraded.  Made for much more room as you can see.  But poor Logan got moved to the floor.  Yea – poor Logan.

The paint wasn’t completely dry – that’s why it looks spotty.  It’s 100% now.

Much better right?

We charge $100 an hour for remodeling.  ; )

And just so we’re all on the same page, Erik was the one that asked for a Syracuse room.  As you see in previous pictures he is wearing a Syracuse sweatshirt.  It was 80 degrees out, but he refused to take it off.  He’s slightly obsessed.

So yesterday we took Erik to a trial for this class called soccer shots. They teach young ones how to play soccer. Erik seems interested in sports so we took him to see if he would even play or if he likes it before we signed him up.

Well, he loves it. He said right when he was done that he wanted to do it again. Then he said, in that cute little voice, “I just had fun huh.” I only took pictures with my camera phone because I wasn’t sure what to expect. We were half expecting him to be too scared and to sit on the sidelines (which he did for the first couple of minutes until he saw the soccer ball – then he was all in). He starts for real mid September so I will take better pictures then. Our little soccer boy. : ) Aunt Ashley played soccer for a long time so she’s been teaching him too.

I told him so if you stick with soccer you can say that you’ve been playing since you were three years old. Then he will totally rock out. Cool kid.

I like to go out on dates with my friends.  The kinds of dates where you eat food that you know you totally should not be doing if you want to weigh any type of respectable amount.  The kind where there is lots of laughing and babbling on about not much at all.  I do that with my friend Jen.  And we go to fun places that are named things like The Chocolate Pizza Company.  And we get these types of fun shirts.

Brandon <3′s me, you know he does.

We also get to go on play dates with our littles.  Jen’s little, her niece Lea, prefers Brandon over Erik though.

There was also this really amazing sunset going on the night we played.  I don’t have any idea who’s house this is – so if it’s yours, oh so sorry.  Don’t shoot me.

We all had fun at the park.  Even me.  Ha.

Now Emma had fun without us the day before.  I’m a really overprotective kitty owner, so poor Emma doesn’t get to go outside.  She begrudges me a little, and I feel bad, but still won’t budge.  Brandon talked me into letting her out on our porch upstairs since she couldn’t go anywhere but it was still outside.  Well, she went somewhere.

Erik came out in his underwear to see the commotion.  I wish I had his fear-less personality sometimes.

As we won’t obviously won’t be living here forever, here’s an image so you can enjoy our view too, even after we’ve gone.

I downloaded this awesome new app today called Colorsplash. It allows you to take the color out of certain parts of your pics. Very cool.

I’m kind of obsessed with hot air balloon pictures.  We went to the Spiedie Fest last weekend, and I took 8000 hot air balloon pictures.  Our boy wasn’t so fond of the hot part of the hot air balloon.  After the balloon that was 10 feet away from us took off, he decided he liked the hot air balloon thing again.

We are ultra serious.

I haven’t edited a single one and they were all taken with manual focus.  Oy.

Feel free to steal any.  They make good backgrounds.

Today I had an excuse to act wild. I clasped my hands together, put them near my chin, slapped a smile on my face, and proceeded to bounce. Yes my friends I was jumping up and down like a kid on Christmas. And let me tell you, it was better than Christmas baby.

At around 2 p.m. Brandon decided to do a coffee run so we could avoid that Mommy Daddy nap time that we seem to think is mandatory lately (I still argue that it is). Around 10 minutes after he leaves the house phone rings. At first I thought it was the lady at the stable calling to confirm our reservation for our riding on Saturday. Then I remembered she only had my cell number. I sat there and contemplated letting the voicemail get it so I could finish my paper. Well curiosity won out over being a good student (c’mon you know it would happen to you too). When I got up to check the caller i.d. it was a number that I had never seen. Well, curiosity won again and I answered (damn you brain for having thoughts of people calling to tell you your name came up in the lottery). There was a nice lady on the line telling me her name and asking for Patti Finton. I couldn’t even fathom a guess at what her name was because I forgot immediately when I heard what she said next.

So let me give you a little background here. Kidding kidding I hate suspense too.

She was calling to let me know that I was chosen to receive the scholarship for the honorary society for part time students at SU. I almost fell out of my chair. This means that it pays for my entire fall semester. And this is on top of the university scholarships I already have. She was also calling to let me know there will a brunch in October at Drumlins, the country club in Syracuse, and that the lady that donated the money for my scholarship would like to meet me. I have to also give a speech, but hey, whatever.

I’m not the bragging type, but holy holy holy hell.

Patti is a happy girl.

Well as I have eluded to last weekend being an interesting weekend, that’s to say the least.  We had 7 dogs here that we were watching, as well as the chicks and the cats.  So pretty much our entire life was consumed with animals.  Honestly, we enjoyed it.  No, we wouldn’t want to do it every weekend, but yes, they were fun.  And pretty freaking cute.

Erik loves Lizzy.  Okay well maybe it’s me.  Okay maybe it’s everyone.  She is the best little dog ever.  She is the sweetest dog in the whole wide world.  She also makes the cutest little squeaking noises when you cuddle her.  Everyone wants to snuggle her up.

I would keep her if I could.  I suppose being the puppy sitter is sufficient.  : )

The old man.  We like the old man.

We also pretended that we were cool and had a life and went to the Spiedie Fest in Binghamton on Saturday.  We love to pretend.  We pretend like once every few months.

I really like to pretend when we go to the Speidie Fest because I gotta tell you, I love fried dough.  Fried dough is like my caviar.  It’s a special treat to get it and is really expensive (in retrospect, it’s a piece of dough for 5 bucks).  And this year I got the boys hooked on it too.  And that’s how it should be.  Everyone should be hooked on fried dough.  There should be stores solely dedicated to fried dough.  Just imagine.  Then I’d be really fat.  But I would be fat and happy.

He cleans up nice.  Even with his scabs.  ; )

I will do another post tomorrow entirely dedicated to the balloons.  There are so many pictures and I can’t just choose a few – I love them all.  Such a beautiful sight.

I’m off to drown myself in last-week-of-school homework.  I hate this week.
