On facebook, my niece has become a fan of almost everything. I tease her a lot for it, but the theme of a few of them has been “I knew about xyz before they were popular” or “when I was a kid I knew…”
So it got me thinking (yes…it hurt). The first time I saw Coheed and Cambria was when they opened for Thursday. Yes, that long ago. They were the first band (there were three – Thrice was the band that played in the middle). It was in a small-ish venue in Rochester. I had never heard of them before, and it appeared not many other people had either. No one really knew the words to their songs, but they seemed good enough, so when I got home I researched them. This was late 2003, and they had just come out with their very first album around a month before. They had a pretty pitiful website, but I figured what the heck, and ordered their c.d. It was…pretty good.
So, I decided to keep tabs on the band, and when they released their next album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, I bought it on the release date. I of course fell in love. So ever since I have been a pretty die hard fan, seeing them two more times (both in small venues around Albany, they weren’t so big yet).
So yea, I knew about Coheed WAY before you all ever did. Ha. I got my nephew Anthony hooked way back when though too, so I guess he can stake a claim to them as well. Maybe. Just a little bit.
